Learn The Essentials Of Audio Mixing Online With Young Guru’s Skillshare Class
As a music blogger, I get tons and tons of submissions from artists on a daily basis. My least favorite of these, come from artists that I affectionately call struggle rappers. These are the guys that I can immediately tell, do not invest back into their craft – or may just be supremely lazy. It shows in the pitch, but often times, even worse, it shows in the music itself. If you want to be taken seriously, you’ve got to come with a product that people are actually going to respect. That means, you can’t just throw a mic up, turn on Garage Band, and call yourself a recording artist. Don’t let these Vine & Instagram stars fool you. If you want to be the best, you have to work like the best.
Maybe you just don’t know how to mix your tracks well. Maybe you don’t have the money to take a full fledged college course in Audio Production, but you’re willing to learn, in order to improve your craft. Well, the good folks over at SKILLSHARE have teamed up with legendary audio engineer/producer/DJ Young Guru (this is Jay Z‘s go-to engineer for those who don’t know) to offer an online, self-paced course in the basics of audio mixing for the ultra low price of $20 (you can even get an additional 25% off the course price by using the code NEW25 at check out, if you register before 11:59pm EST, tonight January 10th.) Upon registering you’ll have lifetime access to video lessons on:
- Organizing a Mix – working with the basic components to a DIY mix, which include the Digital Audio Workstation [DAW], the tracks, and the controls, and how to optimally organize all of the audio information and tools for the task at hand
- Determining Levels – how to arrange levels in accordance with the artist’s vision for the song
- Adding Effects – how to work with basic effects like phasers, enhancers, reverb and delays, as well as create negative space or blend/fade where appropriate
- Tonal Balance – how to recognize when perfect tonal balance has been achieved
